Our Five Promises

  • Fiscal Responsibility — We will not take on non-mortgage debt.
  • We Roll Our Own — We will build our services and equipment from the e-waste that we collect, minimizing new part purchases.
  • Prioritize Privacy & Security — We will build our services and operate our business with privacy and security ahead of all other concerns.
  • We Support Social & Economic Freedom — We will craft a business strategy that emphasizes cooperation and mutually beneficial arrangements whenever possible.
  • We Will Think Outside of the Box — Actually we took the box out into the woods, doused it with kerosene, burned it, and buried the ashes!

About Us

Mykal & Julie

Mykal (on right) & Julie (on left)

The stark fact is that electronic waste accounts for 2%–3% of the volume of the average landfill. This small amount accounts for a whopping 70% of the toxins present in the average landfill! Missoula Recycling and Environmental Technologies LLC, operating as Missoula Re.Tech or MRT, was founded in 2022 to fill a void in the Missoula, Montana area: the lack of easy to access electronics recycling services at minimal cost. We have since become the premier, full-time, active and dedicated e-waste recycler in Missoula. Demand for our services continues to increase!

MRT aims to make electronic waste useful so it stays out of our landfills. All of their products and services are a direct result of their recycling and repurposing activities. They opened their doors to help the community stop those toxins from entering our local landfill. Our products and services are a direct result of their recycling and repurposing processes.

The dynamic duo behind the company is Julie Funk (social butterfly extraordinaire) and Mykal Funk (resident generalologist, technical wizard, and accidental comedian). They aim to provide electronics recycling for the environmentally-conscious consumer and competitive IT solutions for their business customers.

Mykal has been playing with computers since the days of MS-DOS 4.0™ in the mid 1990’s! He got his first computer (an old 8088 PC clone) when he was a teenager since the folks had gotten tired of him hogging the family 386. He had it for only a few weeks before he broke it. His mother told him, You broke it, you fix it! He fixed it! And he has since become well acquainted with the ins and outs of all sorts of electronic technology.

Julie is Mykal’s constant companion. She provides the social graces to the operation. Her first words are very telling of her attitude towards life. According to her Dad they were toast. According to her Mom they were hi. Mykal leans towards her mother’s view of things!

Mykal & Julie Funk have been proud to call Missoula, Montana home since 2015. That is why it became part of their company’s name! They live in a small one-bedroom library (more on that one later!) with their two little, black dogs — Detective Tribble and her sidekick Pax, the Wonder Boy. (What is he going to do next?)
